We were in Srirangam – an island in the Kaveri River, Tamil Nadu and home to the largest functioning Temple complex in the world, built some two thousand years ago in honour of Sri Ranganatha, the creator of the universe. We instantly fell in love with the place. The atmosphere is magical to say the least, and imbues us with a deep sense of reverence. We feel as though we are explorers from an age long ago. We are the only Westerners staying on the island and we are enjoying immersing ourselves in the richness of Indian culture and tradition once more. The vibration is undoubtedly high in Srirangam – the locals are very friendly towards us and the general feeling is one of happiness. We have enjoyed getting up every day at first light to visit the Sri Ranganatha Temple before beginning our explorations of the island. Both of us feel that Srirangam is the most special place we have been to in Tamil Nadu, and it will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
